No Hocus Pocus: The Fisker Karma just might be the new face of the American car industry. The Karma's curvaceous skin is draped over an extruded aluminum spaceframe with a wheelbase as lengthy as that of a Mercedes-Benz S-class - but the Fisker is nearly ten inches shorter, 4.4 inches wider, and 5.6 delicious inches lower in height. The resulting low, wide stance makes even the Maserati Quattoporte look demure - and the standard twenty-two-inch wheels certainly don't hurt that impression. Nor do the massive Brembo brakes lurking behind the two-tone spokes. |
Whew! Hollywood can finally park its Priuses. The Fisker Karma is a unique proposition. Unlike that other extended-range electric vehicle people are making such a fuss about (rhymes with jolt), the Karma's wheels are never, ever even slightly mechanically connected to its engine-generator unit (in this case, a turbocharged direct-injection, 2.0-liter, 260-horsepower GM Ecotec unit). Whether that's good or bad, the Karma is a 100-percent honest-to-goodness extended-range EV. |
